East Union welcomes Miss Lucas

Please join us in welcoming Gabrielle Lucas to the Deer Lakes School District!
Miss Lucas is East Union Intermediate's new third-grade teacher. She attended Butler Area Senior High School and earned her Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education at Grove City College.
"I am very excited to join the Deer Lakes family because of the community and the opportunities the district provides!" Miss Lucas said. "I already feel like I have been here for years with how welcoming and caring everyone has been. I know so many wonderful people who have come from this district. I cannot wait to see what the rest of the school year will bring!"
This is Miss Lucas' second year working professionally. Last school year, she worked elsewhere as an Instructional Practitioner and a STEAM teacher.
"I teach because I love the ability to form relationships with students!" Miss Lucas said. "I love having the opportunity to make things personal with the students and pulling in real experiences that the students have had. Especially at the elementary level, there are so many cool opportunities for the students to grow. It is a time where the 'puzzle pieces' start to fit together and more of the reading, writing and spelling will start to make sense!"
Miss Lucas's inspiration to become a teacher originates from her mother who is also an educator.
"My parents have been super supportive and inspired my determination and dedication to school," Miss Lucas said. "My mom especially has been a huge inspiration to me in my education journey. Being a teacher herself, I have been able to see the impact she has made on her students and the incredible things that they have gone on to do. My third-grade teacher, Mrs. Scheidt, helped me find my love for learning and reading. I'm very grateful for her and her love for teaching and learning."
